St Matthias is a diverse neighbourhood school located in Dalston, Hackney. We recognise that each child is an individual, that all children are creative and need to succeed. Therefore, St Matthias respects the individual needs of children, fosters a caring and creative environment and emphasises the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of each child.
The school gates are open between 8:30am and 8:45am each morning; however, we encourage children to attend for Breakfast Club should they need to. Gates are open for this between 8:00am and 8:10am. Prompt arrival in the mornings helps children value punctuality and avoids disruption for the rest of the class. All lateness is recorded and monitored, so it is important that your child arrives at school on time. The school day starts at 8:45am with registration and, usually, handwriting and spelling. Morning breaks are from 10:20am to 10:35am and lunches are from 11:45am to 1:30pm, depending on the year group. The school day finishes at 3:30pm. We offer clubs until 4:30pm and play centre until 5pm, apart from Fridays, when this finishes at 4:30pm.
Please be aware that we have different drop off and collection points. Please see below or your class’s individual page, to see which gate you need to go to. There will always be an adult on these gates between 8:30am and 8:45am, and between 3:30pm and 3:45pm.
Drop off: any child can come through the main gate on Wordsworth Road or through the back gate on Cowper Road.
Collection: EYFS children are collected from the main gate on Wordsworth Road; KS1 children are collected from the church gate to the right of this; and KS2 children are collected from the back gate on Cowper Road.
