The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.
At St Matthias CofE Primary School, 49% of our pupils are eligible for pupil premium funding, and we are deeply committed to ensuring every child achieves their full potential, regardless of their background or circumstances.
Our intention is that all pupils, irrespective of their background or the challenges they face, make good progress and achieve high attainment across all subject areas. The focus of our pupil premium strategy is to support disadvantaged pupils to achieve that goal, including progress for those who are already high attainers.
We invest our pupil premium funding in three key areas:
Quality First Teaching – ensuring disadvantaged pupils have access to excellent teaching and are challenged appropriately in their learning
Targeted Academic Support – providing interventions such as one-to-one tutoring, small group work, and specialist programmes in phonics, language development and mathematics to help pupils keep up rather than catch up
Wider Support – including access to therapeutic services, speech and language therapy, attendance support, and subsidised places in breakfast club, after-school clubs and extracurricular activities
As an inclusive school, we believe that all children should benefit from enriching experiences and support. While pupil premium funding helps us provide targeted interventions and subsidised opportunities for our disadvantaged pupils, we ensure that all children in our school have access to the same high-quality provision, clubs, trips and learning experiences. Every child at St Matthias deserves the chance to thrive, and our approach reflects this commitment.
We are proud that our disadvantaged pupils performed in line with their non-disadvantaged peers, and outperformed them particularly at greater depth standard in reading and writing We continue to monitor progress carefully and adapt our approach to ensure the best outcomes for every child.
