EYFS
The Teddys Bear’s Picnic was the highlight of the week for Early Years! The children went on a teddy bear hunt, where they had to find all of the bears that were hidden across the meadow. Everyone was excited to hunt for the extra special rainbow bear! The class enjoyed music, played games and share a fabulous feast at the Teddy Bear’s Picnic. Thank you to all the parents who came along to join us and for donating food to share.
All of the adults in Early Years are so proud of the children! We know that our fabulous Nursery children are more than ready for Reception and we celebrate Reception class who have officially graduated EYFS as they move up to Year 1.
Year 1
Year 1 have shown fantastic focus in their lessons, right up until the end of term!
In Writing, the children invented new characters, wrote imaginative stories from picture prompts and created exciting comic strips full of creativity. In Maths, the children explored patterns and shapes, including radiating patterns, with the children producing some creative and colour repeating designs.
The children also loved making their collages using photographs from throughout the year. The children will take their collages home as an important reminder of just how much learning, confidence and growth had taken place this year!
Year 2
Year 2’s final writing outcome of the year has been a set of instructions as to how to build an invention. They have used adverbs, commands and conjunctions to make their sentences clear and detailed.
The classes trip to Butterfield Green was a lovely way to celebrate a year full of learning and hard work!
Miss Fryatt has expressed what a pleasure it has been teaching Year 2 this year. Year 2 have been an amazing class and their enthusiasm and curiosity are infectious and we look forward to seeing them all again as our new Year 3 class!
Year 3
Year 3, have had a brilliant final week! The class had their Computing day, where they explored desktop publishing and used these skills to design their own digital posters using the programme Canva. The children had to decide what key information they wanted to share on their posters and had to carefully consider how they would make the posters eye-catching and visual appealing to their audience.

Year 4
This week, Year 4 have been reviewing how to tell the time, testing each other on analogue and digital clocks, and becoming very confident with reading and converting 24-hour time. In Writing, the children wrote a letter to their new teacher, Ms Calixte, so that she could get to know them more ahead of September.
As we reach the end of the year, Ms Jeary wants to say how incredibly proud she is of the how hard each child has worked, the fantastic progress they have made and the growth that she has seen in the confidence, resilience and independence of the class.
Year 5
Our Year 5 classes have been developing their skill in debating this week, as they have had to consider carefully as to whether Gorillas should be kept in captivity. The children wrote a persuasive letter based on what they believed to be the most convincing argument. In RSHE, lessons focused on the theme of change and how change is important, it can be challenging. The classes explored different strategies to deal with change and considered who and what they have around them to support them with this.
Ms Paul and Ms Ryan, want to share how proud they are of all the children in Year 5. We look to they children as they move to become the eldest within the school and know that they will be true ambassadors of St Matthias as our fabulous new Year 6s!
Year 6
We celebrate our tremendous Year 6 class in as their final week with us draws to an end!
The Year 6 graduation was a chance for everyone to reflect upon their time at St Matthias and share some of their most precious memories. The children thoroughly enjoyed their prom! We have finally received the children’s SATs results. These are testament to the hard work and resilience that the children have shown this year. A special thank you to all of the staff who have supported them along their journey.
We know that every single child in Year 6 will go onto secondary school and continue to flourish. We send these children out into the world with Faith, Hope and Love.
